Chickens!

"Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." (Genesis 1:28)

Getting ready for the chicks

In February, Steve built a brooder for our new arrivals.

Chicks

On February 28, 2004, our chicks arrived home. We raised four day-old chicks that were all supposed to be egg-laying hens. We found out in May that the Lord blessed us with one rooster. :)

Moving outside/Chicken tractor

Instead of a chicken coop, Steve's trying out a chicken tractor, which he moves around our yard once or twice a day. We also let our chickens roam around supervised.

Below on the left is Luke holding our chicken which we later found out was a rooster.

We were so excited on June 24th when our hens laid their first eggs!

Below on the left is our rooster, "Chester". Here Chester had been in isolation for about a month for being too mean to one of the hens.

Free Ranging

After we got back from our family vacation we've been letting our chickens freely roam around our property, but we decided a fenced area would be more helpful in keeping them away from trouble (such as, our chickens enjoy exploring and hanging out around our side porch and carport). :)
