FROM OUR FAMILY…

Greetings to you and your family!

"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance." (James 1:2)

The Lord taught us a great deal about growth and trust in 2003. God allowed our family to endure some difficult trials last year, but the Lord uses trials to refine us. Through God's grace and His infinite mercy throughout 2004 our family has been on the road to recovery and healing as we grow in Christ.

In May 2004, the Lord saw fit to bless us with our fourth child. We are all excited and grateful for His entrusting us with another child to raise for His glory. Our new blessing is due February 6.

CHICKEN VENTURE In February 2004, the Lord led our family to take our first crack at farming. We raised four day-old chicks that were all supposed to be egg-laying hens. We found out in May that the Lord blessed us with one rooster. :) We had two red sex-linked hens (Red and Rosey), one white leghorn hen (Snowball), and one red sex-linked rooster (Chester - pictured above). We were so excited on June 24 when our hens laid their first eggs! Instead of a chicken coop, we tried out a chicken tractor, which Steve moves around our yard once a day. In September, Steve built his first fence - now our chickens are free-ranging in a fenced area.

STEVE's big project of 2003 was the addition of two bedrooms to our house. He did all of the interior work with help from family and church friends. Steve has learned quite a bit about carpentry through the experience and the work on the chicken tractor/coop. He also found that he has three eager little helpers in his work. He continues to enjoy the blessings of working from home and spending more time with his family.

MICHELLE continues to enjoy our children. She's amazed that we are already in our fourth year of homeschooling. Niko is in third grade and Mia is in preschool. The Lord has been teaching Michelle the joys of studying His Word and His world through a Lifestyle of Learning approach. This Fall, Michelle also started learning Spanish with our children. They have been enjoying memorizing Bible verses and singing hymns in Spanish.

NIKO is now eight years old. He enjoys caring for and playing with the chickens, exploring the outdoors, and learning about God's creatures. Throughout the year, he has collected and cared for skinks, toads, a frog, caterpillars, hermit crabs, crickets, and a worm snake. Niko enjoys bringing along his little sister and little brother as he finds new critters to study. He likes being a big brother. He enjoys drawing, and often teaches Mia how to draw guiding her hand on paper. Niko really likes having a little brother to be rough and tumbly with, too.

MIA is four years old now. She likes to explore the outdoors with her brothers and gather the eggs each morning. She enjoys being a big sister. When Michelle teaches her phonics, Mia then teaches the sounds to Luke. Mia enjoys playing with her baby dolls and is especially looking forward to being a big sister again as she anxiously awaits the arrival of her new baby brother or sister.

LUKE is now two years old. He enjoys tagging along with his big brother as he cares for the chickens each morning. Luke often waits until he can bring an egg inside the house all by himself. Luke likes exploring outdoors with his big brother and sister, collecting rocks, acorns, or leaves along the way. Michelle refers to Luke as her crooner, since he often likes to sing throughout the day and especially with the hymnal during our family worship each morning.
